Scenes from the Lake

Posted: May 28 2014

I thought I'd share a few shots from up in the Adirondacks this past weekend. We went up to the Lake for the first time this season to see family, and to see Mother Nature - Big Mama! The weather was cool and lovely, and while the water was too cold for swimming, I did dip my toes in and it felt delicious. The first image up here is a sign that's been in our camp forever. It's an old camp that my mom has been coming to since she was a kid in the 50's, and it's full of history. We have no idea what this sign means or who left it...but we always smile when we read it. So, welcome to the Wo Kap Sa Lodge...

My dad has a habit of making cryptic markings on almost every surface. I found this one Sunday morning. I have no idea how long it's been there, but it's always a good idea to know where north is...

The light in the morning is really beautiful and all of the textures on the porch and on the dock come alive... It's a great time to birdwatch, which I do with my cup of coffee on our back porch, or on the dock. This weekend I saw a ruby throated humming bird and also a pair of catbirds...among other feathered friends.

When the morning is cool, there is a beautiful fog that kind of marches across the bay before it disappears. It's mysterious and ghostly...

Later on, we keep working on the annual harvest...Dandelions for wine. Our yard is..."au naturel" with no fertilizers or pesticides, and so, "weeds" abound... though they're often more beautiful than cultivated flowers, in my opinion. No matter how many dandies we pick, there are always many, many more. X S
