What does it mean to be broken? Mended?
These Kintsugi vessels speak to that question on so many levels.
Kintsugi is the Japanese art of mending broken ceramics with gold or metal. The intentional enhancement of a vessel's damage actually renders these pieces very valuable and many believe, more beautiful than they were before; for each one is unique, brought about by a singular set of circumstances.
In one article I read, they summed it up in an interesting way...
"The true life of the bowl began the moment it was dropped."
